I feel like Rip Van Winkle who just woke up and realized that I am 65.

I am babysitting for 2 of my precious grandchildren while their parents are taking

a much needed vacation.

I took the 6 year old to a birthday party at a bowling alley and sat in the background remembering how 35 years ago I would bowl in a league and my mother would sit in the background watching us and I would give her a wave now and then. She appeared to be content as an observer. Now I wonder what was she really thinking ?

Was she thinking as I was that she wished she was as young as the parents giving the party and not the "old Granny"

I know "age is a state of mind" but let me tell you when I sit on the floor playing with the kids and struggle to stand my mind screams YOU ARE OLD.

Well 10 years from now at 75 I will be envying 65 year olds.

Soooo the moral of my story is Enjoy each day , stop wishing my life away and be happy !!!

Baby Buffalo

I live in a Retirement Community in Central Fl.

We have several Buffalo in corals throughout the Villages. This baby came into the world about 1 week ago and weighs about 100 lbs (ouch)

I tried to feed the mother a carrot but she was afraid to take her eye off her baby for even a second. I tossed the carrot to her and she was able to eat it and keep one eye on her offspring.

I love Spring a time of new beginnings for animals, plants and people.

I visited my brother in law this weekend he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which has metastisized to his liver. Of course instead of a beginning this diagnosis brings on only thoughts of "the end". He is in a Clinical Study which consists of 15 weeks of Chemo using experimental drugs combined with proven drugs. He will have 3 weeks on of chemo and 1 week off.

If anyone out there knows of anyone who has had this grim diagnosis but has survived please let me know.

At this point he needs any help he can get.

I sincerely believe that somewhere out there is someone that can lead him in the right direction.

NEW CLUBS

As I mentioned in my profile I live in a Retirement Community in Fl. There are new and exciting things happening each day. I wake up to the sound of sirens which is comforting to know that new friends and neighbors are being transported to to Hospitals. Sometimes I see neighbors walking down the street pushing a carriage I rush to take a peek to admire their grandchild but to my chagrin it's their dog. I feel strongly that these furry friends belong on leashes walking on the sidewalk. Can you imagine not walking your dog but pushing him ????? Ok yesterday I hear that there is a new club in our Community "The Sleep Apnea Club" I have a picture of members nodding off during the meetings. But there are alternatives how about the Celiac Disease club. Most of the meeting is held in the bathroom. Well it's nap time for me TTYL zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

When I was whining that no one reads my Blogs my daughter informed me that I have to Jazz up my contents. Hmmmm talking about "My dog Murphy" just doesn't do it. Well when ya reach 65 there are some crazy things that go on for example Venereal Disease is on the rise in our retirement community. There is a pick up joint where young girls are trying to pick up old codgers and old codgers really think that they are interested in them not their $$$$. I met a 66 year old widower the other day (his wife died recently) he is on the prowl for a lady about 50. As a watched him jump on his motorcycle and drive into the sunset I thought what an asshole. Oh back to the VD since women are past the child bearing years they feel they can have sex sans protection HELLO !!!!!!!!!! So the Dummies now have a new issue to deal with. When I first moved here I read about a club that the members throw beer at each other and call each other foul names. I am learning to play golf and gardening so Miss First Born your Momma is boring but disease free !!

I forgot to introduce Murphy (our furry friend)
Murph will be 10 on 3/17. We adopted him from the SPCA back in 1998.
My brother had died suddenly that year and Murph brought some joy into our home.
Dog spelled backwards is God and I feel that God guided us to the SPCA where we found one of his creatures to give us comfort.

So when you think of Florida you think of Hurricanes well think again ! On Feb 2 2006 in the wee hours of the morning our neighborhood was hit. If you've heard that a tornado sounds like a train approaching that is what I heard and within about 30 seconds it continued on it's deadly path.

Our home sustained very minor damage but as you can see our neighbor wasn't so fortunate luckily they were in Texas that night.

My first inclination was to "get out of Dodge" but as time as passed the memory has faded and we are still Floridians. No chance of building a storm cellar the wind wouldn't get us but we would drown. What a choice !

Poor Tillie has seen the good times and the bad times in Asbury Park.
I wish it could have stayed the way it was with the happy sounds of chidren's laughter but with passing time the scene has changed and so have we.

THANKSGIVING 2005

This picture was taken 2 years ago on Thanksgiving. My daughter had just moved back into her renovated house and she and her husband Brad hosted Thanksgiving dinner.
I was very concerned that it was too difficult of an undertaking and suggested many alternative plans but they assured me it was no problem.
They were right ! We were together and in spite of all my worries that's what a Holiday is all about.As a Grandmother it's my job to sit back and relax (when will I learn) I wonder if there are other Grandmothers who make too big of a deal about Holidays !!!!
